IN THIS LESSON - John 1:19-28

A confrontation between John the Baptist and religious leaders sent from Jerusalem. They ask him if he is the Messiah, Elijah, or the Prophet, but John denies all these titles. He identifies himself as the voice crying in the wilderness, fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah. When asked why he baptizes if he is not the Messiah, John explains that he baptizes with water, but there is one among them—Jesus—whom they do not recognize, and He will baptize with the Holy Spirit. John humbly points to Jesus as the one greater than him, unworthy even to untie His sandals.
