IN THIS LESSON - John 1:6-13

These verses introduce John the Baptist (not the John who wrote this gospel) as a witness sent by God to testify about the Light, which refers to Jesus, so that all might believe through him. Though John was not the Light, he prepared the way for it. The truest Light, Jesus, came into the world, but the world did not recognize Him. Even His chosen earthly people, the Jews, did not receive Him. However, to all who did receive and believe in Him, He gave the right to become children of God—not by natural descent or human effort, but by being born of God.
